In 1814 the New York City Council Minutes show the Assistant Alderman for the 3rd Ward is Anthony L. Underhill. He was appointed to the standing committees on applications, finance, and streets. In 1815 he is again the Assistant Alderman on the standing committees on applications, charity, finance, fire department, and streets. In 1816 he is elected Alderman and was appointed to the standing committees on applications, charity, fire department, and streets. In 1817 he was reelected Alderman and appointed to standing committees on the canal, fire department, markets, and wharves, piers, and slips.
